How To Clean Air Conditioning Unit
There are a few benefits to cleaning your air conditioning system’s components. It will operate more efficiently because dirt interferes with its smooth operation. It will last longer, and you’re less likely to need expensive repairs.
Turn Off Power
You need to turn off the power to your air conditioning system at the circuit breaker box. This is necessary as a safety precaution. Turn it back on only once you’re done.
Clean Evaporator Coils
You can start with the indoor or outdoor components. The evaporator coils are in your house. Use a soft brush to remove dust from them. You can use a cleaning solution from a home improvement store. It’s ok to spray in areas you can’t reach since the solution will rinse off through condensation when your air conditioner is in operation.
Clean Drain Pan
Clean the drain pan below the evaporator coils. You can use soap and water or bleach if you want to sanitize it. Use a 50/50 mixture of bleach and water. You can buy tablets at home improvement stores that are designed to clean AC drain pans.
Clean Outdoor AC Unit
Because it’s outside, your outdoor AC unit can get pretty dirty. Remove the screws from the top of it, and take off the grill. Spray it with a hose to remove most of the gunk.
You’ll next want to remove debris from the bottom of the outdoor unit. You can scoop most of it out by hand. If you have one, use a wet vac to remove all of the debris.
Clean Coils and Fins
Clean the coils using a solution you buy at a home improvement store. You can straighten bent fins by using a fin tool. This will help the efficiency of your AC system.
