How Often Should You Get HVAC Maintenance?

HVAC Maintenance

HVAC systems keep a home comfortable during winters and summers, or any time heating or cooling the house seems wise. A well-maintained HVAC unit could run more efficiently, and routine maintenance might catch problems before they turn too costly. How often should a homeowner request care, though?

The Suggested Maintenance Interval

Some suggest that checking the system once per year, usually after the colder winter months, appears advisable. Others suggest doing so twice a year since the summer requires running the cooling unit, which might also strain the system.

Going too long without any maintenance inspections might prove regrettable. Parts and components suffer wear-and-tear, and it would not hurt to have someone inspect the system to make sure there aren’t any problems. If a part does require replacing, it can be swapped out before additional issues occur.

An HVAC system may require a thorough cleaning, too. Dirty systems do not run efficiently, and they contribute to poor indoor air quality.

Don’t Forget the Air Ducts

Air ducts might require cleaning, but the schedule for this service is usually three to five years. Sometimes, air duct cleaning may occur sooner, such as right after home remodeling work or if a pest infestation appears. The presence of mold might be a concern, as well.

Basic Maintenance Remains Important

Maintenance comes in many forms. Changing an HVAC’s filter might not be a tremendous job, but a dirty filter could cause all kinds of problems, including a cracked heat exchanger. Changing a filter every 90 days is often recommended, but there may be instances when changing it every 30 or 60 days is beneficial.
